Meet the Pack
Around 130 dogs, two cats, and the people who help us care for them. This is our family.
Some of our dogs were born here. Some have been given a second chance after circumstances changed in their previous homes. Every one of them matters equally.
Our two cats, Ansku and Pena, were named after Liisa’s parents’ nicknames and have become just as much a part of Matara Creek as the dogs.
Alaskan Huskies
Working dogs with heart and drive, built for the trails and the everyday rhythm of the homestead.

Independent, expressive, and endlessly curious — always part of the daily conversation here.
Scandinavian Hounds
Short-coated dogs who need extra warmth in winter — one reason we are transforming the old barn.
Maremma Sheepdogs
The guardians of the farm. Their flock is not sheep, but our dogs, our cats, our home, and everyone who lives or visits here.
Village dogs
As Dave likes to joke — wonderful mixed-breed characters that have found their place here. Every one of them matters equally.
We believe dogs should be allowed to be dogs. They should have space to run, dig, climb, play and simply enjoy life.

Work & Training Opportunities
Matara Creek is a working home, kennel and business, and from time to time we have opportunities for people who want to build their skills and work with animals.
We welcome open applications throughout the year from people interested in working with us, as well as enquiries about internships and apprenticeship placements.
We are particularly interested in people studying or qualified in fields such as:
- Animal care and kennel work
- Animal training and dog training
- Veterinary nursing and veterinary studies
- Puppy development and socialisation
- Other animal-related fields
We often have a need for skilled people to support us with puppy socialisation, training and development, as well as the everyday care and management of our dogs.
An internship or apprenticeship at Matara Creek can offer practical experience in a working kennel environment, dog care, puppy development, training, animal welfare and daily life on our farm in Finnish Lapland.
We are always interested in hearing from motivated people who are reliable, practical and genuinely passionate about working with animals.
